Spotlight on Craft Lighting + Giveaway

Although I'd much rather work in natural daylight, I usually sew/craft in the evenings after work. Good adjustable task lighting is a must if you want to avoid eye strain. Sarah and I have work lamps on our craft tables, and I have another standard lamp next to my chair in the family room for hand sewing in front of the TV.

The benefits of good lighting include

  • reducing eye strain and glare
  • task lighting can elevate your mood and increase productivity. It will make your craft space more user friendly.
  • you can save money by reducing ambient lighting costs and using energy efficient task lighting
  • you can save the planet with energy efficient options.

Stephi Desk Lamp

Things to consider:

  • Lights should evenly diffuse light over the work area and should not shine into users' eyes.
  • Lights on movable arms provide more flexibility in the location and the quantity of light
  • Your task lighting should focus light on your work area without producing glare.

Buyster Lighting are generously offering a $100 gift voucher to one of our readers to choose a lighting product to suit their needs. To enter, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. You can get an extra entry if you are a subscriber or follower of this blog, or if you post about the giveaway on your site. Simply leave an extra comment for each additional entry you are eligible for. Sarah and I will draw the winner on Thursday 15th October.

NOTE: To enter this giveaway you need to have an Australian delivery address as Buyster only ship within Australia.

The blue daylight globe has just blown in my lamp (as has the one in my sewing machine!), so I would love this prize. Having just got glasses due to eye strain, I appreciate the value of good lighting!

What a great gift! I really know the importance of good lighting- embroidered a piece for a friend last night, looked at it today in the daylight -and you guessed it -got the colours wrong -a lot of unpicking ahead! I am a follower of you blog - always entertaining.

Maybe thats my problem, I need an extra lamp for my hand sewing. I am finding it very difficult to thread the needles even with glasses. LOL

My routine always ends up leaving me with the hand sewing to do at night in front of TV, which is practical, but it is so hard to SEE!

I would love to have decent light for hand sewing by at night. Count me in.

Does it count for extra that I am the student of Handmade (Sewing Studio), who is a follower and also blogged you - and I so desperately need a 'bright'light for putting on the beads to my first Nicole M design teardrop bag!

This is THE most awesome giveaway. I need this for embroidering and hand sewing in front of the TV. I try to position myself so that the window is behind me, but after the daylight goes, the lamp in there is just too dim. I'd love to get some new lighting.

I won't even attempt hand work without good light. That one looks pretty nice. Someone in Australia is going to like it alot.

What a lovely giveaway, Lisa--very generous! And pity I'm not in Australia--LOL! ;o) Just wanted to leave a comment though anyway, as I too often am in my workroom in the afternoon and evening and my work room has no natural light, no windows, so good lighting is essential... I'm always on the look out for a good lamp! Must say I LOVE your "Cathedral Windows" patchwork in progress... You are so clever with quilting & sewing. :o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

With everyone switching to florescent light bulbs it seems like I never have enough light where I'm working! So this is a great giveaway !! Please enter me!

ps... it would also be great to have more directional lighting for taking pictures of my projects!

suzitee said...

You can never have too much good lighting! It's something that you take for granted until you move into a new house...which has lots of "mood" lighting, but very little "craft" lighting :) Thanks for the chance to win...I would put a voucher to very good use!

What a great giveaway I wish I was in Australia. Lighting is something I have been thinking about addressing for my sewing room. It gets no direct sunlight and has four lights but still I find it lacking. You have inspired me to finally get it sorted. Thanks

It makes me shudder about the light that I craft by...
