When Life Gives you Lemons....

.... make lemon butter!

When I visited my parents a couple of days ago, I left with a huge pile of lemons from their tree. This morning I turned some of them into Lemon Butter using a recipe I found in an old cookbook belonging to my Nan - she used to make the most delicious lemon butter. I hope mine tastes half as good!

I have a confession to make - I think I suffer from Obsessive Craft Disorder. When I see something that takes my fancy, I need to stop whatever project I am working on, and start on it immediately! My condition was triggered this week when I saw the sweet felt sachets at Checkout Girl.  I have made a start on some (it is the perfect TV craft) - these could be the start of my Christmas crafting. But be warned - you won't be able to stop at one.

I've somehow missed your last couple of posts...no idea how! I've never tried lemon butter, but it sounds delicious! Those older cookbooks have the BEST recipes. I haven't been to Calico and Ivy for the longest time...love your coin purse, and the fabric of course :)
My UFO pile is too large to start anything new (that's what I'm telling myself, anyway!)so you really need to stop showing us these fabulous projects!

Lemon Butter and I go waaay back. I have my gran's recipe too. She makes award winning stuff. I think the best way to eat it is at the fridge door off a spoon!

Let me tell you.....you're not the only one suffering from OCD. Now I just have to find some whool or felt to make some myself, but that is something not excisting in my sewingroom, so I have to wait a little before starting on this. So I just start on another new project instead this weekend LOL

Yum for sure! I have made lemon curd before, but this would be a first go at lemon butter. I'll have to go buy my lemons though.
What is the name of the cookbook? It looks like it has a bunch more decadent recipes in it. I'll have to keep an eye out for one like it at estate sales.

I have never had lemon butter before; it looks wonderful. I can just imagine it on short cake with whipped cream...
The felt flowers are very sweet.

Lemon butter is so good it's bad! Or so bad it's good. I can't decide which. But I do love the stuff.

Try this: mini tart pastry base. A dollop of lemon butter. A dollop of double cream. Top with mixed berries. Sprinke with icing sugar. Serve with french vanilla ice cream.

Divine!

I love your felties. I look forward to the day when I have enough time to do some more along those lines!

silverpebble said...

Hmm, I'm wondering if lemon butter is like our lemon curd - if it is it's just divine. How lucky to have access to lemons straight from the tree!

Now that applique is ....just....lovely. The bottom one is my favourite. I do love simple stylised flowers.

I went to make lemon butter as well last week but opted for the cordial instead. How long does your recipe say that the butter will keep?
Those sachets look really pretty, like Susan I will bookmark the page and add it to my seemingly never end of to do pile.
Have a good w/e

I have never tried lemon butter - it looks delicious! Would you put it on toast or scones? How awesome would that be to have a lemon tree in your yard! I admire you for already starting on Christmas projects - I always need to start sooner.

I've never heard of lemon butter before. Lemon curd, but not butter. I wish I'd known last year, as we had a bumper crop of lemons. This year looks sad :-( Only one little lemon on the tree.

There is something about homemade lemon butter that reminds me of my Nan, it is the best and something I refuse to buy from the supermarkets, I'd rather go without! Yours looks great.

Love the felt colours you have chosen.

at one of my sewing days last week one of the girls brought some lemon butter tarts! you just mix the lemon butter with some whipped cream and place it in some prepared shortcrust sweet pastry cases, make them yourself or buy some, top with a little lemon zest.
very delicious!!!!!!!
